The University of Ferrara, founded in 1391, is one of the oldest in Italy. It hosts 13 Departments (among which the Dept. of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Sciences), a Faculty of Medicine, an Institute for Advanced Studies, 38 Research Centres, 3 Museums, a University Theatre and a Botanical Garden.
UNIFE currently offers ca. 70 courses of study, enrolling more than 28,000 students (ca. 1,000 of which being international students and 440 PhD students) and employing 740 permanent academic and 550 administrative/tech staff.
UNIFE has been awarded with two UNESCO Chairs (“Urban and Regional Planning for Sustainable Local Development” and “Education, Growth and Equality”) and is member of several International Networks (among them the ECSEL-ARTEMIS Industry Association and BBI Bio-Based Industries, European Food Safety Authority – EFSA, European University Association – EUA, Knowledge and Innovation Community RAW MATERIAL, and the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment – CoARA).
UNIFE actively promotes and participates in several national and international research projects, among which 42 were funded by the EU’s FP7 program, 46 by H2020 and 11 by Horizon Europe.
UNIFE is also active in the Technology Transfer, hosting a 300 m2 Incubator, 14 academic spin-off companies and a Technopole (housing the Laboratories of the High Technology Network of the Emilia-Romagna region), and resulting in a current portfolio of 28 patent families.
